I can look out the window for that

30 April 2003 - 08:46 pm

One of our local TV stations is touting their breakthrough “neighborhood weather.” Now, what I don’t need them to do is tell me what the weather is in my neighborhood. I can look out the window for that.

Why is Rob Zombie directing movies? And why is A Mighty Wind not showing in Providence?

45 minutes later, I quit

30 April 2003 - 02:08 pm

This bit, from an article at osnews, in so many ways, perfectly describes my life:

I’ve come across this scenario: I download program A. In order to compile it, I need lib X, Y, and Z. I download them all. Library Y fails to compile because it requires B and C. I download B and have to upgrade C. But B depends on E. And E seems to be installed. 45 minutes later, I quit.

Must be tried of something.

Bloodthirsty throng

28 April 2003 - 06:52 pm

I have recently (13 minutes ago) received a demand for new material.

I would like to mention that three minutes ago I sliced my finger open on my desk. Hopefully that will appease the bloodthirsty throng, if just momentarily.

Hóquei

14 April 2003 - 12:07 am

There is a bizarre sport airing on the Portuguese channel - being just after midnight on a Sunday night. In the listing it is called “Hóquei,” which is pretty apparent. It looks sort of like a hybrid of ice hockey and field hockey, played on roller skates. Now I have seen and played roller hockey, which amounts to little more than ice hockey on in-line skates. I wasn’t even aware that people learned how to roller skate anymore. What an odd thing.

Night three

10 April 2003 - 02:01 am

So it is just barely Thursday. Night three of my insomnia. I blame Monday night for starting it all - watching basketball. Then last night I was all wired. But that was probably because I slept late on Tuesday due to the staying up really late the night before.

Lisa Marie Presley was on Letterman tonight. She seemed drunk or something. At the least, not very coherent.

UHF

08 April 2003 - 08:19 pm

I was putting my UHF DVD into the machine to play tonight, and this is what I realized. The labels for widescreen / full screen are on the opposite side of the disc than the actual material. So to play the widescreen version the full screen side is up, which is to say that the side labeled”widescreen” actually contains the program material for the full screen version. This is because the machine plays from the underside of the disc.

You know?

Fatuous

07 April 2003 - 03:11 pm

Word of the day is fatuous: Vacuously, smugly, and unconsciously foolish.

I think we should all be afraid of Paul Wolfowitz. He’s the one that got us into this mess.
