Remedial English

27 April 2005 - 03:28 pm

I have mentioned First Coast News before, specifically in relation to their atrocious grammar. I regularly write to their editors, correcting their stories, but the editors never reply. Today, I noticed the following text at the bottom of their stories:

Rewritten

Obviously, created and updated vary for each story, as does the editor. It may have been there all along, and I just never noticed it.

So now I wonder, does “rewritten” include when I mail their “material” back to them with the grammar corrected? Am I now prohibited from doing something that brings me so much joy?

If only they would write back, I’d know for sure.

The Delgados are dead. Long live The Delgados.

And go get Universal Audio, because it is great.

Forget Plan B

Here’s my new idea: start a metrosexual shopping magazine and / or clothing store.

The name: Sartorial Spender.

I’d have to live in New York though.

ESPN has been showing a lot of college baseball lately. I was trying to figure out why, since they used to only show the college world series. Then I realized it, hearing Gary Thorne doing the play by play: no NHL playoffs.

And I almost didn’t even miss it.

Backup

I have spent a great portion of the last two days trying to get a decent backup system going.

Excruciating details to follow once I get it figured out.

ecto

A new version of ecto is out, sporting fancy new icons, among other improvements.

Currently listening to Gigantic from the album “Live Coachella 2004″ by the Pixies.

Yeah, good luck with that

I love the questions that come over the biomechanics mailing list.

Does anyone have any data or literature on the impact force of a person jumping from height to the ground, specifically a truck driver jumping down off a truck tailgate to ground level?

What force is imparted to the legs, back, etc? Any studies on the risk of future muscoloskeletal damage from repeated jumping?

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
