Cleanness

Cleanness? Yes, I know it’s a word, but wouldn’t cleanliness be more readily comprehensible?

Alien

An alien is holding up stores on the East Side. Or, the Providence police have an 8 year-old drawing sketches for them.

Bronson

Best not to mess with the Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services.

And failure

29 August 2005 - 12:10 pm

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [blib/arch/auto/Image/EXIF/EXIF.bundle] Error 1
/usr/bin/make -- NOT OK
Running make test
Can't test without successful make
Running make install
make had returned bad status, install seems impossible

All I wanted to do was run a little perl script to check out the EXIF data in my pictures

29 August 2005 - 03:09 am

Three hours later I have installed Xcode, DarwinPorts, lynx, ncftp, wget, gnupg (plus a whole bunch of dependencies). And all that is just to get perl’s CPAN module to correctly self-configure. And all of this is so that I can get the Image:EXIF perl module to install.

Plus I found about 5 gb of missing bat flight videos.

You have arrived in the south

  1. Clerk at the post office calls you “Slim.”
  2. Waitress says, “We don’t have any vegetables except what’s on the salad bar.”

flhurricane.com

28 August 2005 - 11:28 am

flhurricane.com is really remarkable in the depth and amount of information contained. And they have a most interesting use of Google maps to plot data from hurricane advisories (e.g., the one for Katrina).

Plus one complaint: Can people please stop personifying hurricanes? Weather Channel doesn’t do it, but local stations and talking heads are guilty. I cringe every time I hear “Katrina is deciding where to make landfall next.” No, “she” isn’t. It is weather, not a person.

Pat Robertson also surprised to find foot already in mouth

24 August 2005 - 06:30 pm

“I said our special forces should ‘take him out.’ ‘Take him out’ could be a number of things, including kidnapping,” Mr. Robertson told his audience on the show “The 700 Club” today.
