Here is an intereting BBC article about foreign words and what they mean about a culture (with a link to photos from the World Beard and Moustache Championships). And here is a list of Office slang. I don’t work in an office, so most of it is lost on me. 404 is the best though.

Science Friday

25 September 2005 - 10:52 am

I signed up for the Science Friday podcast from iTunes a while ago. I’ve been slowing working my way through the backlog (the 25 minute walk to work helps).

There was a particularly enlightening episode concerning the natural history of New Orleans, the destruction of forests, wetlands, and barrier islands. The guest, Mike Tidwell, made the point that an environmentally sustainable plan had already been developed before the hurricane to restore the barrier islands by piping silt-rich waters from the Mississippi River onto the Louisiana delta.

The cost for this plan? About the same as one month of the war in Iraq.

From the Brown Alumni Magazine:

Bryan Levine’s publicist writes: “Bryan proposed to Ruth Savadier on May 28, just over two years after she literally fell into his lap during their five-year reunion. They live in Manhattan, where Ruth is in ad sales for a magazine company and Bryan is a full-time lawyer and part-time hostage negotiator.”
